Brazil - Romania Joint Issue from 2015

The pair of Brazilian stamps at the top is from 2015 and is a joint issue between Brazil and Romania. Each stamp features a sculpture of the biblical character "Eve" with Brazilian Victor Brecheret's interpretation on the left and Romanian Gheorghe Leonida's interpretation on the right. Below that is a 2002 stamp from a souvenir sheet that brings attention to the environmental protection area for the Southern Right Whale. Unlike their northern Atlantic cousins, the southern right whales are not endangered.

History of Hockey: Canada - USA Joint FDC

The History of Hockey was a joint issue between Canada and the US, issued Ocbober 20, 2017. It's supposed to represent a shared love for hockey and how the game has changed over the years. The bottom stamps are a reflection in the ice of a player from the past. This year is the 100th anniversary of the NHL so perhaps that was the motivation behind this issue.

At first I was put off at how simple the Canadian FDC postmark was but then I noticed the hockey pucks on the top and bottom of the text, placed right under the blades of the players sticks. I like joint issues but I'm not that crazy about this one for some reason.

Amilly Loiret, France

This came to me from the town of Amilly in the Loiret District of France. It has the "Founding of Quebec City" stamp on it that was a joint issue between France and Canada in 2008. It was the last stamp in the series of five issues that included this and another joint issue with France and a joint issue with the United States.

Canada / Guernsey Joint Issue - War of 1812

This new joint issue from Canada Post and Guernsey Post kicks off the Canada Post series to commemorate the war of 1812. This war between the British and United States was fought between June 1812 and Feb 1815. In the end, both sides declared victory and the war helped to bolster a new sense of unity and nationality in both nations. The British loyalists in Canada took great pride in having successfully defended Canadian borders from an American take over.

This first issue in the series features Guernsey born Major-General Sir Isaac Brock, the "Hero of Upper Canada" and War Chief Tecumseh, leader of the Shawnee people. The two led a successful campaign to capture Fort Detroit in August 1812. Both men would later die on the battlefield: Brock at the Battle of Queenston Heights on 13 October 1812 and Techmseh at the Battle of the Thames on 5 October 1813.

The next pair of stamps in the series will be issued in 1813 and will feature Laura Secord and Lieutenant Colonel Charles de Salaberry.
