Critically Endangered Flora of Singapore

Three stamps from Singapore are from a 2024 set of four that depict flora of the Lowland Dipterocarp Forest. Dipterocarp forests are dominated by trees from the dipterocarp family. These tall dense hardwood forests promote a extreme floral diversity. At one time Singapore was covered by such a forest but now only small pockets remain. And with the destruction of these forests also went much of the biodiversity. Obviously. But what remains is protected and cared for. Some of the critically endangered plants in the remaining forests are represented on these stamps.

World Post Day, Singapore

The stamps are from a 2020 set commemorating the end of the Second World War and the end of Japanese occupation. The well applied spray-on sorting center postmark commemorates World Post Day which marks the anniversary of the founding of the Universal Postal Union on 9 Oct 1874.

Toa Payoh, Singapore

From the residential area of Toa Payoh in central Singapore. An interesting spray-on postmark. The stamp in the right corner is a 2024 Olympic stamp from a set of 10. This stamp represents sailing.

Registered Mail from Singapore

No postmarks on this registered letter from Singapore. The envelope was from a 1991 philatelic presentation pack for a set of stamps about the history of civil aviation. The envelope has a nice weight to it. The group of four stamps at the top are 2000 Year of the Dragon stamps. Bottom right is a 1999 "Economic Progress" stamp from the "20th century in retrospective" stamp sheet. And next to that is a low value definitive.

Singapore's Botanic Gardens

From Bukit Batok in the west part of Singapore. The Botanic Gardens was established in 1859 and was the first UNESCO designated heritage site in Singapore.

Singapore Bicentennial

Postmarks celebrating Singapore's 200th anniversary. There was a philatelic event held at "Our Tampines Hub" between 22 and 30 June and that's where the postmark and cachet were applied. OTH is a large event space and sport facility in Singapore. The spray-on Bicentennial postmark is really nice.

SINGPEX 2019

The stamps are all 20+ years old, but the postmarks are from the 36th Asian International Stamp Exhibition held in Singapore, 31 July to 4 August 2019. This postmark was available on the first day of the show when they commemorated Singapore's bicentennial.

Singapore

Stamps from a set of 5 issued by SingPost on July 2016, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the annual Singapore Youth Festival. The festival "celebrates the rich diversity of youth talent in schools in Singapore" and the stamps contain designs "that symbolise the dynamism and energy of youths and their artistic pursuits in the arts, dance, drama and music".  More here.

Jurong East, Singapore

The large stamp on this one shows the Singapore Botanical Gardens. The 156 year old tropical garden is the only tropical garden listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
