AAT Krill Stamps from Seymour

From the Australian town of Seymour, north of Melbourne. The two stamps on the left are Australian Antarctic Territory stamps from a 2025 set of four depicting Antarctic krill. AAT stamps can be used on Australian mail just as Australian stamps can be used on AAT mail. The heart shaped stamp with the penguins is a personalized stamp.

Australia's Sustainable Future

This is from the Canberra suburb of Hawker. The three stamps on the left are a 2023 set that present "three aspects of environmental sustainability that are key to a sustainable future": renewable energy, biodiversity and Indigenous land management. And the stamp on the right is a rose coneflower from a 2015 set the showcases Australian wildflowers.

Casey Station, Australian Antarctic Territory

Australia's Casey Station is one of the three permanent Antarctic research stations managed by the Australian Antarctic Division. It is reachable by air which is why the station is a hub for Australian activities in the Antarctic. And it is also why this cover came back to me so quickly. Quickly as in the same year that I sent it. 

Royal Military College, Australia

A prepaid envelope from 1986 commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Australia Royal Military College. The 33c stamp that is postmarked with a FD postmark dated 27 June 1986 is printed on the envelope. It would be more enjoyable if the other stamps had been postmarked but there's something else I don't like about it. Three of the four stamps on this envelope appear to be have been previously used. They were removed from another envelope and glued to this one. 

I don't know why it bothers me. The cover looks fine. It's interesting. But somehow it just doesn't seem right. If you have to reuse stamps, do it to mail a phone bill or a Christmas card. Please avoid doing it on mail you're sending to a stamp collector.

Hawker ACT, Australia

Hawker is a suburb of Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory named after Australian member of parliament Charles Hawker. Not to be confused with the town of Hawker in South Australia named after Australian settler and politician George Hawker: Charles Hawker's grandfather.

The two stamps on the left are from a sport stadium series in 2022: the Anna Meares Velodrome on the top and an upside down Adelaide Oval on the bottom. In the middle are a pair of Rottnest Island definitives from 2007. And the 2022 stamp on the right commemorates 50 years since Australia became the first country to mandate compulsory seatbelt use in the front and back seats of a vehicle.

Working Dogs of Australia

From Fairfield, a complete set of 2008 stamps featuring dogs in Australia. From left to right: a German Shepherd, an Australian Cattle Dog, a Beagle, a Border Collie and a Labrador. Also from 2008, a special occasions stamp on the left and an organ and tissue donation awareness self-adhesive stamp on the lower right.

National Stamp Week 1976, Australia

This is an Australian FDC from 1976 for the National Stamp Week stamp featuring William Blamire Young: the designer of the Kangaroo & Map stamp from 1913. Bottom-left is a Squatter Pigeon stamp from a 2021 set featuring pigeons and doves. And in the middle are two stamps from a 2021 set featuring contemporary Australian sculpture with Inge King on the top and Lex Namponan on the bottom. And to round it all off, a 5c Coral Rabbitfish from 2010.

Royal Visit to Cocos Keeling Islands

The 2004 souvenir sheet on this cover from Adelaide Australia commemorates a visit to the Cocos Keeling Islands by Queen Elizabeth in 1954. The islands were transferred to Australia from the UK in 1955. Google street view has fairly good coverage of the islands which surprised me. The population of the two main islands is around 600 which is quite a few more than I thought it would be.

Davis Station, Australian Antarctic Territory

Canada Post has suspended sending mail to something like 163 of 218 countries and I don't even get advertisements in the mail any more. But I still received this from the Antarctic.

Ouyen, Australia

Ouyen is a small town in north-west Victoria. Home to a little over 1000 people. The bottom stamp is a Christmas Island Christmas stamp from last year. The other two stamps are also 2017 Christmas stamps which at first did't look all that special. But the images on the stamps are photos taken during the annual "Lights of Christmas" event at St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney, where lights and images are projected onto the face of the Cathedral during the month of December.

Adelaide, Australia

Australian Shipwrecks FDC

Just three of over 8000 shipwrecks lying beneath the seas that surround Australia: the HMS Pandora, the paddle steamer Clonmel and the Dutch East India Company's Zuytdorp. The Australian government protects all wrecks in it's waters that are more than 75 years old.

Australia, WRESAT Satellite

The first Australian Satellite, WRESAT, was launched almost 50 years ago on 29 November 1967.

Ocean Grove, Australia

Ocean Grove is a town on the Bellarine Peninsula in Victora, just a little south of Melbourne. It's a popular seaside tourist destination and it's population quadruples in the summer. Reminds me of a place I grew up in, without the seaside.

Charles Sturt was a famous British explorer of the Australian interior. Between 1828 and 1830 he mapped out the path of several rivers, hoping to prove the existence of an inland sea. And in 1844 he led an expedition into the interior of Australia.

Australian Legends 2015

I often forget to write the correct year when I'm writing the date on something during the first few weeks of a new year. I'm pretty sure this was suppose to be postmarked 04 Jan 2016 and not 2015. The stamps were issued on 22 Jan 2015.

Garfield, Australia

Did you know that 64% of Christmas Island is a national park? Two of the stamps on this cover from Garfield, Australia are Christmas Island stamps, showing off the park's environmental diversity. The other two stamps are from a joint issue with Norfolk Island and feature the Norfolk Island Pine which grows in Australia and on Norfolk Island.

Fairfield Heights, Australia

Mawson's Huts Replica - Hobart, Australia

The Mawsons Hut's Foundation have created a replica of Mawson's Huts on the harbour front in Hobart, Australia. It was officially opened to tourists on December 2, 2013. Australia Post made this special postmark to commemorate the occasion.

Mawson's Huts are a collection of buildings used by the Australian Antarctic Expedition of 1911-14, located at Cape Denison on Commonwealth Bay. For years now, work has been on-going to restore and maintain the huts which are seen as an important part of Australia's Antarctic heritage.
